4Mail shows your mailbox like the pigeonhole wall of a post office: every pigeonhole shows how much is in it. Empty ones are sunk in, full ones stand out.
The wall of pigeonholes
The home screen is a set of tiles, the pigeonholes. A pigeonhole is a Gmail label, one of your addresses, or a saved search. Unread mail shows as a big number in each one. Every pigeonhole gets a colour and a symbol, and you arrange them as you like.
Several addresses, one mailbox
If your Gmail account has several "send as" addresses, each gets its own colour and a stamp with initials. On every mail you see which address it was sent to, and "Reply as" answers from the right one.
Mail as ToDo
Turn a mail into a ToDo with one tap: with or without a due date, with a note and a snooze ("Wiedervorlage"). The ToDo tab sorts by due date. For each pigeonhole you can have new mail become ToDos automatically (off by default). In Gmail, 4Mail creates the label "4Mail/ToDo" once for this.
Agenda
One list for what comes next: appointments from your iOS calendar, your ToDos, and invitations from your mail, each on its day. 4Mail never adds an appointment from mail on its own. You confirm every suggestion in the calendar editor.
Briefing with Apple Intelligence, on your device
The Briefing tab shows what happened since yesterday: how many new mails, which replies are due, what is on today, which newsletters you can archive. 4Mail counts the numbers itself. Apple Intelligence words the summary sentence and summarises single mails. The briefing names a deadline only when the mail states it, and every statement links to its mail. The AI runs on your device, not in the cloud. Without Apple Intelligence the briefing keeps counting, just without summaries. AI can be wrong, so every line shows its source.
Search
Search shows matches from your device instantly and adds results from Gmail. "from Mia attachment" turns into filters that you confirm. A good search can become a pigeonhole on the wall.
Unsubscribe from newsletters
For newsletters that offer an unsubscribe header, 4Mail shows a button. You are unsubscribed only after you confirm a dialog that names the destination.
Notifications per pigeonhole
For each pigeonhole you choose whether notifications arrive and whether they show a preview. Without a preview the lock screen only says "New mail in …". The app creates the notifications locally on your device; there is no push server.
Safe reading
4Mail blocks images and tracking pixels in mail until you tap "Load images". Scripts in mail never run. Links open only after a prompt that shows the destination.
iPad and Mac
On iPad a sidebar shows pigeonholes and tabs next to the list and the reader, and you can drag mail into a pigeonhole, into the ToDo tab or onto a day. On the Mac you also get windows and keyboard shortcuts.
Other mail accounts (IMAP)
Besides Gmail, 4Mail also connects IMAP accounts, for example iCloud Mail, GMX, web.de, T-Online, Posteo or mailbox.org. For well-known providers 4Mail fills in the servers itself; otherwise it asks your provider's domain or you enter them. The connection always goes encrypted and directly to your provider, and your password stays in this device's keychain. All accounts can share one inbox. Outlook.com/Hotmail and Proton Mail do not work with 4Mail (Microsoft requires its own sign-in, Proton only works with its own apps or Bridge).
English and German
4Mail speaks English and German and follows your device language.
